Anyone that has followed Shadoh's music and social media presence since he released Backlash back in the summer of 2015, will know very well that he is an artist that is no stranger to controversy and confrontation, and that he has always been unafraid to speak his mind in all situations. His new single shows very little remorse for those on the wrong side of the stick.
One stand out moment that is an example of this is when he dropped his track Get Spun, which targeted fellow Scotland based emcees Rb and Syko. The best way to get an idea about this track and how Shadoh simply deconstructed the both of them whilst laughing at them and showing off his silky Segway skills is to simply go and watch it! What i will say is that it definitely acted as a benchmark for the lyrical skill, high quality and 50 .cal delivery that we could expect for his future work.
That leads to the focus of this article...
Get Spun 2!!!
This time around, Shadoh had yet again been left with no other option but to crumble the careers of more fellow Scotsmen. In the crosshairs on this occasion were Werd and Cbass, the first of whom has over the years deliberately attempted to derail and demonise Shadoh's career and business ventures, the second of whom i hadnt actually heard of until GS2 dropped. As one of the very elite from Scotland, who has made waves since he was making hip hop as a teenager, it is understandable that Shadoh would be the target of some venom, jealousy and hate. In fact, it seems that Shadoh recieves more love and support from his audience outside of Scotland, possibly due to envy from people who have seen his rise. all that aside though, GS2 has been received with love and respect across the whole of the U.K and just one listen to it will explain without words exactly why! A word of warning though, be prepared for it to become an addictive track to listen to!
Produced by Pez OTB, one of the fastest rising and most skillful producers in the scene right now, GS2 is an original grime heads dream, a hefty, clean, hype and bass driven beat, accompanied by an aggressive, staccato flow, which highlights very clearly the suggested reasons for the hate towards him from Scotland. If it isnt made clear in the lines " Edinburgh city is where he comes fae, Sons of Scotland is the gang that he runs wae, in 20 - 10 they were the best in the country!, But seven years on, theyre still still living in the place that they come fae, meant to be rich but wheres the cars an the money?, meant to be big but wheres the pads and the honeys?, living in crackdens its dark and its muddy, i dont care about the scene, happy how my life turned out, so you know i couldnt care about the dream!, i dont really care if their saying s**t about me, i just dont f**king like it when they talk about my team!", then I dont know what is! Tie in the supreme delivery, aggy content, mindblowing production and top notch video work by Omar Al- Zidjali and you have a very prestigious piece of work that stays true to the original formats of Grime.
Shadoh's approach to his preferred genre of Grime has gained him immense popularity with the original fans of the sound, but Shadoh's original fans will also remember his older work which was primarily hip hop and had a lot of very deep and floetical lyricism and concepts. This brings me to the final part of this article which is Shadoh's upcoming album "Him Wae The Hat". As somebody who has been priviledged to hear some snippets an previews of this release, i can say, without giving away too much, that it will please everyone, the original fans, the newer grime fans, as well as people who are just hearing him for the first time when the album is released. The production levels of what i have heard is spot on, from the varioss producers that have worked on it, to the audio quality, concepts, subject matter, and the wide range of different flavours and moods that you will hear. I personally cannot wait to hear the full release, and truly believe that this album will blow away any misconceptions about Shadoh as a truly great lyricistand musician as well as an absolutely monolothic artist! #SCOTTISHGRIME #SHXDOHTEAM
